Founded in 2016, One Catalyst Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing tangible support to the members of our community as well as medical financial assistance, oncology research funding, and educational scholarships. Through fundraisers, events, and donations, One Catalyst is able to ease the burden felt by the individuals who are struggling with these issues today.
One Catalyst Foundation has been in the making since 2012 when our sister, daughter, and friend lost her life. Jessica Bongiovanni was 25 years old when she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. Throughout her battle, she endured chemotherapy, an amputation, and lung surgery, as well as the emotional and mental ups and downs that came with treatment.
Jessica passed away as a result of a pulmonary embolism on December 2, 2012--just 4 days after she learned she was cancer free.
Jessica was a science enthusiast. She received a bachelor’s degree from Drexel University, a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina, and was entering her second year of a doctoral program in chemistry at Princeton University when she was diagnosed.
It is clear to all who met Jessica that she was destined to achieve great things. Through One Catalyst, that potential will be met. Her memory and passion act as a catalyst for those closest to her in our quest to help ensure that the struggling members of our community have the same level of support Jessica did throughout her time of need.
